Spring 2023 One Room Challenger- Week 5
This week’s challenge was the wallpaper installation for the gentleman’s bathroom. I say it was a challenge because I fought the urge to show you this beauty on my Instagram stories. With week 5 of the ORC in the books, the clock is seriously ticking, and the reveal day will be here in no time.
Have you ever done a wallpaper installation? This is my 3rd time and let me tell you, the process has been different every single time. Was it hard? Not really. Was it time-consuming? Sort of! But that all depends on the pattern and type of wallpaper.
As you probably know from my previous blog post, we have textured walls all over the house. Since it’s a small room, we chose to smooth out the walls for this project. Want to see how I did it? You can learn how to skim your walls with this tutorial.
I am collaborating with Tempaper and I chose this stunning peel and stick wallpaper: Faux Grasscloth Geo. The vibes for the gentleman’s bathroom are sleek, sophisticated, and masculine aesthetics. I chose that wallpaper because it gave me that mid-century with a splash of vintage style.
Having a smooth wall did make the wallpaper installation easier. And since it’s peel and stick wallpaper, we were able to do it without having to use any additional adhesive. Keep in mind, peel and stick wallpaper can stick thoroughly on the walls and may not allow you to adjust, so make sure you measure and align accordingly.
For this wall, I used 4 rolls of Faux Grasscloth Geo wallpaper. The measurement of the wall is 102” w X 105” h and I had some material leftover. Given that the match type of the paper is straight, I was able to just install it and match the patterns from each roll.
Here is how the process goes…..
I recommend thoroughly reading all the instructions that come with the wallpaper you have chosen before you begin. Directions will vary depending on the specific paper.
You gather your wallpaper roll, position it on the wall after measuring, peel the backing paper and use the squeegee to smooth it out. Remember to allow a few inches of the wallpaper to overlap onto the ceiling and/or baseboards so that you can use a scraper/squeegee to push the wallpaper into the crease between the wall and the ceiling. Then use an X-acto knife to trim off the excess paper that is no longer needed. All walls are NOT straight nor perfect.
I am so pleased with the results. The beautiful pattern and punch of color the wallpaper delivers, makes the hard work totally worth it. There are no doubts that the design vision for this bathroom is coming along magnificently.
Only 3 more weeks left! Make sure to come back next week and check out the progress. In the meantime, you can always check out the other participants of the One Room Challenge and their amazing projects here.
See y’all next week!
