Hello Friends and welcome to finding your Home Decor style!
First, Let’s relish in Home Decor! Have you found yourself struggling to identify and find your style? Do you have an idea of a style you’re interested in? You might not have a clue, BUT that’s completely okay! Styles and styling can be interpreted in such a broad perspective. Ideally, ‘your’ style is anything that makes you happy. A style that makes you feel ‘At Home’ is the most important aspect of home decor.
Take my living room for instance, I struggled for 3 years trying to create my ‘Perfect’ home. I was inspired by Joanna Gaines, I’m a super fan! I mean, who doesn’t love her and Fixer Upper?! Joanna’s idea of styling was my vision for my lifeless space. My initial idea was to take tidbits of her style to start creating a space that I would love. As some of you may know Jo’s style is very farm-esque and rustic, and as much I like that I didn’t want my entire living room in the form of a barn house. You would think that living in Texas, I would have loved that concept, but it was just too much for what I was looking for. I wanted to create a space where I felt that I never had to leave, something blissfully comfortable.
Do you feel like you struggle deciding or selecting a style? I know, it can be so overwhelming! Whether your style is Farmhouse, Boho, Modern, Glam, Industrial, Traditional or Rustic- just make sure it makes you HAPPY! In Marie Kondo’s words- “Sparks Joy”.
If you were to visit my home, you will notice that my style design does not fit in just one category. I like to consider myself “MODERN FARMHOUSE with a dash of GLAM”. It may sound a little eccentric, but it works for me and it keeps me Zen!
Here are some tips when deciding how to decorate your home:
- Emotions/Feelings- Decide how you want to feel when you walk in. Do you want it to feel Welcoming? Cozy? Bright and Clean? Peaceful? Grand? Inviting? YOU DECIDE!
- Style/Colors- Are you leaning toward a certain style? Color? Example: If you are looking for farmhouse, then you will tend to like: Wood, Shiplap, Distress, Organic…etc. Your colors would be more neutrals, greenery, and whites.
- Aesthetic- What kind of furniture, wall décor, art, rugs and accessories do you envision in your home?
Lastly, Do not stress! I hope you take your time, shop around and create the home you will love.
