I cannot believe it! We are almost at the finish line and my DIY desk and built-ins is turning out fantastic. This is week 6 of the Spring 2021 ORC and my office and craft room vision is turning into a reality. Oh, it is looking so pretty that I can hardly contain my excitement.
When I accepted to participate in this challenge, I really had no clue what to expect. All I knew was that I wanted a fabulous office and craft room with a decent sized desk and built ins. To maximize the workspace, stay within budget and achieve a custom look, we decided to create a DIY desk and built ins.
On last week’s blog post, I shared that I had purchased 2 unfinished kitchen base cabinets and a gorgeous 10’ butcher board. After putting those items together, I was mesmerized by my new desk and quickly began my search for built-ins ideas. While I was searching the web for the perfect built ins, I became overwhelmed. There are countless options for bookshelves and built ins, ranging from various sizes, designs, and colors. If we hired a carpenter it would cost us over $2,000, so I had to come up with another plan. I was determined to find the right one for me.
I hit the jackpot when I came across these bookcases from Target. The price was too good, and I hurried up bought two! Honestly, I had never pressed the “curbside” pick up button so fast on an item like I did for these bookcases.
Remember, I had said we are working smarter not harder? Well, I am using those bookcases as my built ins. They turned out to be the perfect size in width and height for my desk. We assembled them in less than 1 hour and quickly placed them on top of the butcher board. Hallelujah! It worked!!!
To give the bookcases a custom look, I decided to add some trims that I had purchased from Home Depot. WOW!!! Can you imagine the difference it will make once it is all nailed and painted together?
I am in astonishment of how amazing the DIY desk and built ins look together. Like seriously, I am proud of myself and my hubby for trusting me and my plan.
