Are you a gnome lover like me? If so, here I am going to show you how to make gnomes and the best part is that it does not require sewing. If you know me, you know I love Jesus, my family and my gnomes. In that exact order! 🙂
I made theses gnomes to add to my Easter décor this year. They are so easy and if crafting is your jam; you can make them for every holiday. My family always say that I can be found buying gnomes at Home Goods along with many other stores. So when I showed them that I made my own, I couldn’t tell if they were proud of me or annoyed to see another gnome. Let’s just go with the first reaction. LOL!
Now let’s get the crafting party started! Below is the step-by-step tutorial on how you can make your gnome.
Here is the list of materials to make gnomes:
Cutting mat
Scissors and or fabric cutter
Cone shaped Craft foam or Styrofoam
Glue gun
Hot glue
Wooden beads (for nose)
After gathering your materials, you will need to measure and wrap the fabric around the cone. Once you have the measurements, cut the fabric and glue it to the cone. Start wrapping and gluing from the bottom and make sure you are stretching or pulling the fabric so that it lays smooth on the cone. If you are planning to use 2 different type of fabrics like I did on my bigger gnomes, you can measure and cut the fabrics in 2 pieces, so that you don’t waste fabric.
Ready to make the beard? Grab the faux fur and cut it into a triangle shape and glue it on the cone. Because this will be your gnome, you can really cut out the beard to the shape of your liking.
Make sure the fur looks like a beard on the cone and trim it if you need to. Now, let’s add the nose by gluing the wooden bead.
Since I had made the other 2 gnomes using 2 different types of fabrics, I decided to add a strip of a solid colored fabric to the small gnome. I wanted to make him a little different but still tie all of the together.
Easy, no sew gnomes
Now that you have this “blueprint”, you can see how easy it is to make a gnome. I am sure you can get very creative making your “gnomies” by using different fabrics and adding tons of embellishments. Let your creative juices flow, the possibilities are truly endless.
I hope you have enjoyed this easy tutorial and I can’t wait to see you get creative making your own gnomes. Make sure to tag me on Instagram. 🙂
