The holidays are here and what other way to kick off the season than to craft?! This gnome wreath is equally simple and charming and a favorite every Christmas. It is not a surprise that I love gnomes, right? Yup, those cute fat guys have my heart.
This gnome wreath is such an easy DIY that can be done by adults and kids. Perhaps, a crafting night with the girls? Crafting with family (or friends) is my kind of quality time.
Let’s get to the good stuff. Here is a list of materials you will need:
- Foam wreath form
- Faux fur ribbon
- Faux fur for beard
- Wooden heart
- Neutral color pompom (for nose) or you can use a wooden bead
- Felt
- Small bottle brush Christmas trees
- Ribbon (I used a satin ribbon)
- Glue gun
- Scissors and exacto knife
Ok, are you ready for the easiest gnome wreath ever? Let’s do it!
Grab your foam wreath and the faux fur ribbon. First unwrap about a foot of the ribbon and secure the end onto the wreath by gluing the ribbon on the wreath.
Start wrapping the ribbon around the wreath form. You may want to keep the ribbon in a bundle so you can easily wrap it around and pass it through the form. You may add some glue to some areas to secure the ribbon and keep it wrapped tightly.
Once you finish wrapping the entire form, glue the last piece and cut the excess. Easy peasy, right?
Now let’s make the gnome…
Grab your felt and fold it in half. We are going to make the gnome hat by cutting 2 triangles.
Let’s glue the faux fur to make a beard. Grab your wooden heart and glue the fur in the middle of the heart. After gluing the fur, cut the material as an upside-down triangle to create a beard.
Take one of the felt triangles and glue it behind the “bearded gnome” to make the hat. Then glue the other triangle on top, covering the wooden heart all around. Don’t forget to glue the sides of the triangles together to secure the hat.
The last step is to add the pompom as the nose. Viola! Your gnome is complete! Isn’t he adorable ?
You finished wrapping the wreath and making your gnome, now let’s get to assembling the wreath. Take the wreath and using your scissor or exacto knife, cut a slit on the foam so that you can glue and bury the “tip” of the wooden heart, securing the gnome on the wreath.
Grab the bottle brushes and secure them by gluing them to the wreath to your liking. Since my gnome was in the middle, I added the “trees” on both sides.
And the cherry on top is to grab your ribbon (I used a satin ribbon) and tie it around the wreath.
Mission complete! You have now made your own gnome wreath! This project is such a fun, easy DIY and just perfect for Christmas!
